A spherical lens is molded to focus on a point (your eye) and a cylindrical lens is contoured to focus on a line (the line of your eye). A cylindrical lens is easier to make and therefore less expensive while the spherical lens is more optically correct but is more expensive to make.

What is a Carbonic-X lens? It's Smith's proprietary, silicon based, hard coated lens that provides excellent scratch and abrasion resistance.

What is TLT? TLT stands for Tapered Lens Technology. The curve of a lens distorts light as it passes thru. By tapering the lens at just the right places, Smith can offset the natural distortion caused by the curve making light pass thru without distortion.
